Tourlourou, by the choreographer Carlotta Sagna, is a tour de force of a kamikaze-dancer. Performing on a target, a dancer dressed in camouflage gear prepares to live the last half hour of her life, counting down the minutes with a series of gestures and movements which turn her into a mechanical soldier, a classical dancer, a boxer, a faulty toy. The spectator-voyeur is irresistibly drawn into and involved in the transformations, through perfect dance, words, rhythm and humour, as if the countdown was applied to their own life.
“You know for certain that tomorrow you will die.” On the stage, the countdown has begun. The dancer, a figurine in a mechanical box, marks time with her body inevitably dragging us to the explosion. There is a lot of vitality and strength in her interpretation. But, beyond this homage by the dancer, shown by a small soldier serving to please the spectators, Carlotta Sagna constructs a tense atmosphere through her incredible dramaturgical ability. Dance, words, rhythm and humour continuously interchange and echo amongst themselves. “In ten minutes I will no longer exist” the dancer beats out time. Time is limited, and when she leaves the stage, her exit rumbles like an explosion and wounds our bodies. An effect that will last for a long time.
